At once timelessly elegant and visually dynamic, Serene’s facade has been crafted to create a strong sense of place.
Imbuing a sense of rhythm, the verticality of the facade represents the mature trees synonymous with this pocket of Melbourne. This unique articulation creates a beautiful interplay of light and shadow, allowing the building to come to life as it responds to the movement of the sun throughout the day. Contrasting light masonry and reeded timber with dark steel, the materials palette is bold and texturally rich, offset by vibrant greenery which brings a soft, organic quality to the design.
To the centre of the building, a purposefully placed walkway creates a prominent arrival experience for residents. Whilst evoking a strong sense of place – of coming home – this allows for optimal light filtration within the residences. Here, a tranquil cobblestone path is enveloped by lush landscaping, complete with an overhead canopy draped in cascading vines.

“Serene was inspired by the natural Australian landscape that is synonymous with Kew. The site has an abundance of parks and waterways close by and this really stimulated the design team from the outset of the conceptualisation process.”
